The broad perspectives shared throughout the book demonstrate a perfect understanding of how important it is for student-athletes to give their talents to their sport and their focus to academics.”—Mark Emmert, President, NCAA“All student athletes and their mentors should read this book. It brings into focus the challenges and the opportunities inherent in being a collegiate athlete. Most importantly, it outlines a framework for how to successfully navigate the landscape and develop an outstanding life plan.”—Deborah A. Yow, Director of Athletics, North Carolina State University“This book reinforces what those of us who work in the collegiate athletics industry understand and should be a required reading for everyone pursuing NCAA scholarships and all NCAA student-athletes.”—Stan Wilcox, Vice President & Direct“The authors provide terrific insight and practical advice on how to develop a road map for that ‘next’ phase in your life and better prepare you for long-term success. I recommend this for anyone invested in the lives of student-athletes, but especially for aspiring or current student-athletes … it’s never too late to start thinking about what’s next.”—Amy Huchthausen, Commissioner, America East Conference“Although this book is for college athletes who won’t go pro, even pro athletes will find, at the end of their professional sports career (which often happens very quickly), that they can benefit from the practical tools and advice in this book. It is filled with insights and is an easy read. I highly recommend it."—Jim Thompson, Founder and CEO, Positive Coaching Alliance

This book should be required reading for every college freshman athlete. It addresses the serious issue of life after sports which all athletes face. It does so in a way that describes the issues clearly and provides solid recommendations for early and continued preparation for life after athletics.

As a former PAC 10 football player at CAL (now PAC 12), I wish I read this book 25 years ago. Excellent advice. Go Bears!!!!

As a high school teacher I am always searching for resources to share with my students and I found a gem when I came upon; 20 Secrets to Success for NCAA Student-Athletes Who Won’t Go Pro. It is a fantastic guidebook for all student-athletes. The advice is spot on. The writing is easily accessible and one can hear the voice of a mentor talking in earnest with aspiring student-athletes, helping the athletes to grow all the skills needed to become grounded successful individuals both on and off of the playing field. It is the perfect gift for a young person who is ready to embrace his/her future.

This handbook features excellent organization, clear language, practical counsel and specific application, both from the authors and from the many voices of successful professionals. When I taught for four years at the University of North Florida, I found that about one-third of the students in my writing classes had no idea what they wanted to do with their Communications degrees. They were in college because it was expected of them, or perhaps because they understood that a degree would mean higher pay, but they had no goals, much less plans that would keep them on course. Even though most were not university athletes, all would have benefited from this book, because "20 Secrets of Success" gives students a step-by-step process to prepare for careers and better human interaction after university life."20 Secrets" does a service to all who will read it -- the students who need direction, the motivated students who will benefit from professional insight and the athletic directors/coaches/instructors who, too, will be better prepared to develop the talent in their classrooms and on their athletic fields.

This is a great resource for student athletes and students in general. The advice is well written and accessible. Considering these issues will provide big benefits.

Great resource for student-athletes. Loved the contributors in the book, and all 20 Secrets. Truly a great read for anyone but as a student-Athlete, it definitely helps provide unique perspectives. A must read!

The collective wisdom among authors to write this book is unmatched, and it shows through each segment giving insight into the interworkings of the industry. I highly recommend this book to new faces in the sports world as well as experienced executives for a 'refresh' AND new lessons in driving us towards new heights. Fantastic book!

This book really helps athletes put their experience into perspective and encourage them to plan for life after college-athletics. Everything is very well thought out, incorporates great lessons and is very relatable for young athletes. A good read for any young athlete.
