About the Author

Mr. Duty was born and raised in Tupelo, MS, about 100 miles south of Memphis, TN. In 1984 he was President and Publisher of MacGuide Magazine, the first magazine ever published on a computer and it was also the largest premier issue in publishing history. He took MacGuide Magazine public on NASDAQ in 1987 and he received the prestigious nomination as “Entrepreneur of the Year” by Inc. Magazine. In 1995 he received an offer in the mail to buy a commodities course by a company in Oregon. After receiving it he discovered it wasn’t quite up to his expectations but it did open up a whole new world to him and thus his quest for knowledge began. He read literally a hundred books during the next two years, attended seminars and watched countless hours of videos about trading commodities. He admits at the end of that two-year period he was even more confused than when he started. One expert would say “Do it this way”, while another so called expert would say “Don’t do it this way”. I was certainly a frustrating time for him. However, he wanted to master the “Art of Trading” and discovered that most of the books, videos and seminars he attended all had a few things that they all agreed on. So he took these common threads and started putting them into a journal. Soon after that friends and neighbors wanted to learn to trade and he began teaching them at a local college in Denver, CO. A year later he started writing Common Sense Commodities which has been rated the #1 course on the market to learn to trade commodities. Mr. Duty has students in over 67 countries and has held seminars in the USA, Canada, England, Russia, and Central America and South America. His second book, Common Sense Options is written for people who want to also learn to trade Options. Both his courses take a simple straightforward approach to trading and he thinks that with a little common sense and discipline that anyone can learn to trade, regardless of their race, gender, or where they live. He has students from all walks of life who have read his books and attended his seminars. Mr. Duty currently resides in Boquete, Panama.

This is one of the first courses I ever read when learning to trade commodity futures. David Duty and I have been trading partners and friends ever since. I love trading futures, it's my heart and soul, and if you want to get a fantastic understanding of how to enter and be a part of this amazing and fascinating world, then this is absolutely the best course you can get your hands on, hands down! This is not just another "me too" book on trading, you could sift through hundreds, if not thousands of those, and never find much beyond black and white pages of long boring text. David's course is different, it's not just some book of text, it's a complete course, filled with charts, and pictures, and examples, and notes, and help along the way, and detailed explanations of difficult concepts.Trading doesn't have to be hard to understand, market's can only do three things, they can go up, they can go down, and they can go sideways. Buy low, sell high, cut your losers short, let your winner's run, that's the name of the game, right? But, if it were easy, everyone would be doing it. David's course is properly named, Common Sense Commodities because he uses simple logic when making trades...surprisingly something other books leave out. Other authors are so eager to impress you with all their in-depth technical mumbo jumbo language and their personal knowledge of the markets, that their books end up being more of a complicated essay on how much they know, rather than a simple step by step outline on how to put pencil to paper, and how to actually make money trading. This is what you get with Common Sense Commodities, an in-depth study of commodity trading, in easy to understand language and examples, step by step processes you can follow along, and actually implement in your own trading. If you've ever considered trading the commodities market, or if you've ever ordered one of those mail order books in the past, but weren't able to make it work for you, but you still have the desire and passion to trade, then you've found the course you need to get you back into the game.I highly recommend it, I promise you won't be disappointed. The best part, David, the author, gives you his personal phone number, you can actually call him, he loves to talk about trading, and never makes you feel like you've asked a dumb question. He's awesome!Best of trades,Lan Turner

I can only ditto the glowing remarks that others who gave this course a five-star review have made. Along with other courses that David has authored, I purchased the Common Sense Commodities course when it was first released, and I was one of the first to purchase his Common Sense Options course. David doesn't just sell courses--he follows through with his time. He considers each course purchaser his student, and he personally cares about each and every one. In order to ensure that you have a complete understanding of the concepts involved in charting and trading commodities and options, David goes the second mile to give you access to all videos and notes that pertain to his courses, and he is always available to answer any questions that you may have. He is a born teacher and trainer, and I consider his courses basic to laying a solid foundation for your trading experience, be it in commodities or stocks.

Over the years I have purchased a number of different investment books, courses, etc. Many of them turned out to be "teasers" to get you to purchase expensive ongoing services and others (especially the "Guy in the Hat's") was an overly simplified explanation of how to visually follow patterns and "gamble" real money on them. David's "Common Sense Commodities" was and is still the best I have come across. I would compare what he provides to a true educational course. He of course shows the trading patterns, but he explains the "Why's" behind them so that you know why they are occurring. Most importantly, he emphasizes the importance of having a plan in place before trading. Without a plan, you are not trading you are GAMBLING. David teaches you how to treat this as a business, and how to protect your money from market turns. He also doesn't try to tease you by talking about MAKING A FORTUNE! in the Market or LIVING THE DREAM! He explains how to make consistent gains vs. the occasional loss (and how to limit your losses)Over time, this is the true way to make money and this alone is worth the cost of the course!

Possibly the best, no-nonsense, easy to understand, and exciting commodities trading course I have ever purchased. (And I have purchased a bunch of them!!) David removes the mystique of trading the commodities markets and brings the student to a ground zero understanding thru common sense examples, charts, and explanations. He also includes videos which not only demonstrate each principle he is teaching, but provide live examples as well. He is there for you and will answer any question you might have. He has also made personal custom webinars for me when I have had a problem understanding a particular concept. I have found him to be very generous with his time and expertise. He is down to earth and very friendly. I would highly recommend his Common Sense Commodities course to not only the beginning trader but also to the experienced trader as well. I keep his course book on my trading desk as a very handy reference. I might also add that his literary style is such that it will not only be entertaining but will also keep one's attention. There will always be something new to glean from each reading. I have gone thru the course several times and each time I pick up something new. A most excellent course produced by a most excellent mentor! His companion course: Common Sense Options is most highly recommended also.
